Don’t Forget The Umarex Fusion 2 Multi-Shot CO2 Air Rifle
The Umarex Fusion 2 is one of those airguns that has become a little left-behind and – dare I say it – forgotten. Probably in this case, it’s due to the amazing success of Umarex USA’s outstanding Komplete.
However that’s not completely fair. The Fusion 2 is still a very viable, fun air rifle that’s ideal for plinking in the backyard or takling those feral soda cans that are terrorizing the neighborhood!
In fact, the Fusion 2’s low power levels and quietness may make it superior to the Komplete as a pure backyard plinker for many owners. The lower power means shorter range and a more backyard-friendly report, particularly as it’s available in .177 caliber only.
In our comprehensive 2020 review, we said that “The Umarex Fusion 2 is probably the most family-friendly, home range friendly air rifle that the HAM Team has ever seen.” It still is and remains a HAM Gold Award winner. That’s why we’re talking about it today!
Manufacturer’s specs for the Umarex Fusion 2 air rifle are muzzle velocities of up to 700 FPS with alloy pellets or 650 FPS with lead. Detailed in the Owner’s Manual, we find that this relates to usage at between 60 and 80 degrees F ambient temperature. That’s pretty-much what the HAM Team found on test.
Of course, these numbers will increase somewhat as the thermometer rises – as with all CO2-powered airguns.
We found that 7.0 Grain RWS Meisterkugels Pistol pellets delivered superb accuracy, too!
The CO2-only propulsion options for the Fusion 2 are ideal for Summer plinking. (You can add-in late Spring and early Fall, too). They may be ideal for anyone who is sure they will never want – or be able – to move up to PCP power levels.
CO2-powered plinkers have a long and honorable tradition in the USA. The Fusion 2 is an ideal way to prolong that tradition towards 2030!
In fact, the Fusion 2 is the successor to the original Umarex Fusion CO2 air rifle. In Hard Air Magazine’s review of the first model Fusion – back in 2014 – we said that it came very close to being an outstanding air rifle, being quiet, accurate, easy to shoot.

We wrote back then that if there could be a “Fusion 2.0” with less-fiddly pellet loading and an improved tube cap mechanism, Umarex would have a great product that would make many plinkers and target shooters very happy.
That’s exactly what the Fusion 2 delivered…
The Umarex Fusion2 features a removable 9-round rotary magazine, a SilencAir muzzle break and a new CO2 puncturing tube cap.
As with the original model, the Fusion 2 uses two 12 Gram CO2 cartridges for propulsion. It’s bundled with a 4 x 32 scope that mounts to the Picatinny rail. However a red dot sight would perhaps be a more usable sighting system for Summer family backyard plinking.
Another useful upgrade with the Fusion 2 is the ability to accept 88/90 Gram CO2 cartridges for longer shooting sessions. That way shooters can choose between getting 70 shots on each pair of 12 gram CO2 cartridges, or upwards of 250 shots on a single 88/90 gram cylinder.
Selling for $169.99, the Fusion 2 remains an outstanding Summer backyard air rifle choice. Let’s not forget it!
