2021 FLFT Grand Prix Results

The first annual Finger Lakes Field Target competition took place on August 21 – 22. So here’s the 2021 FLFT Grand Prix results. The event was sponsored by Airguns of Arizona (thanks, AoA!) and Hard Air Magazine.

A total of 34 competitors had a great time at FLFT. Although – of course – there were many local FT shooters from up-state New York, competitors drove-in from considerable distances to take part. There were contestants from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maine and Massachusetts. One – Matt Stark – even drove all the way from North Carolina! Well done Matt – that’s dedication!!!

The majority of competitors were shooting Hunter PCP class. So the competition was tough! In the end, the winner was Dennis Himes (above) with a score of 114. Dennis was shooting a Daystate Red Wolf, with Sightron SIII 10-50 x 60 scope and Daystate 10.34 Grain pellets.

Here we see Dennis receiving his prize and congratulations from FLFT organizer Eric Brewer.

Thomas Hines – Dennis’s brother, placed second. He also was shooting a Daystate Red Wolf, but with a Hawke ED 10-50 x 60 scope and the same Daystate 10.34 Grain pellets.

In fact, Tom tied for second place with Greg Vaughan with a score of 110. The final placing was only decided decided by a thrilling shootout!

Greg (below) used a RAW TM-1000, again with a Sightron 10-50 x 60 scope. However, he was shooting JSB 13.43 Grain pellets.

Paul Cray won a close race for the WFTF PCP class, with the event’s high score of 116. Paul was shooting a Thomas FT with March 8-80 x 56 scope and JSB 8.4 Grain pellets.

Yes, that’s Paul under there somewhere! Here he is, receiving his prize from Match Director Eric Brewer.

This Grand Prix event was held at the Rochester Brooks Gun Club at Rush NY. This gives two completely different Field Target courses to keep things interesting for competitors over a two-day match like this.

There’s the regular, windy, open course…

Also then there’s the interesting, confined, woods course. In the woods, the biggest challenge can sometimes be just finding the targets among the foliage!

Everyone I spoke to enjoyed the event and can’t wait to return in 2022!

Thanks to Match Director Eric Brewer for all his efforts to run a great event! Not only that, but he even managed to shoot and was always smiling throughout. It’s a tough job, but he volunteered to do it 🙂
