2015 JROTC Service Air Rifle Regional Championships
Young marksmen from Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) programs will be participating in one of the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) largest air rifle events of the year at Camp Perry, OH (February 13-15); Anniston, AL (February 13-15, 19-21); and Phoenix, AZ (February 19-21).
This year, over 11,000 cadets participated in the JROTC Postal Competition on the road to the National JROTC Service Air Rifle Championships.
During the Postals, participants are issued official targets to be fired upon at their home ranges and returned to CMP for scoring. Top teams and individuals of the Postal Match are participating in the three JROTC Service Air Rifle Regional Championships
The event is a 3×20 air rifle event, meaning competitors fire 20 record shots from three positions: prone, standing and kneeling. Visitors are welcome into the range to observe the Regional Championships at any time during the match – with free admission.
Larry and Brenda Potterfield of the MidwayUSA Foundation have donated generous endowments to winning teams and individuals of the Service Championships. The MidwayUSA Foundation is a public charity that helps communities and organizations raise funds to support youth shooting teams and activities.
Winning teams and individuals from all three JROTC Service Air Rifle Regional Championships will be invited to participate in the JROTC National Championship, held March 19-21 in the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center.
For those in the area wanting to try target air gun shooting, the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center in Port Clinton, Ohio, is open Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., September through June (except for holidays and special events) and the CMP Marksmanship Center in Anniston, Alabama, is open Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., (except for holidays and special events) for air rifle and air pistol use. The range can also be rented for a fee for your next company or business/family outing.
