Field Target Woods Course At The 2023 Pyramyd Air Cup
The Field Target woods course at the Cardinal Center, Marengo, Ohio was the setting for the 2023 Pyramyd Air Cup FT competition.
This Field Target woods course was a peaceful, quiet and cool haven for the more than 100 shooters taking part in this event. In fact there were two Field Target courses (Yellow and Blue) in the woods, with firing points running down either side of a central pathway.
However, a small number of lanes was set-up in a small field, so there was some “open” shooting, too, for variety.
As with the 100 Yard Benchrest competition, a wide variety of air rifles were to be found among the Field Target shooters. However these were generally quite different to the models found on the benches, as we’ll see here…
Generally the FT rifles are smaller and lighter than those found in Benchrest competition. This is due to the lower power requirements – either 12 or 20 Ft/Lbs maximum dependent on class – plus the need to shoot kneeling or standing in some cases.
This means that – overall – there were less heavily-customized FX Impacts deployed in this match – although some were present as the photograph below shows.
Instead, there were more Daystates, like this Red Wolf…
or Wolverine…
or Mark 4 (below).
Another popular brand with Field Target competitors was the Thomas. Hunter PCP champion Bill Rabbitt was using one, as we see below….
as was long-time competitor Greg Suave.
Other brands represented in the Field Target competition included RAW…
and BRK – formerly known as Brocock – such as this Ghost, below.
This Feinwerkbau (FWB) air rifle was a less common sighting…
as was this Hatsan…
and this Stoeger Airguns bullpup (below).
Nik Gregoris is dedicated to Air Arms products and was to be seen competing with this S-200, below.
Everyone I spoke to found the Field Target woods course at the 2023 Pyramyd Air Cup both challenging and enjoyable. Thanks to Tyler and the Team for setting it up!
