First Look At The SIG X-Five ASP CO2 Pellet Pistol

The SIG X-Five ASP CO2 pellet pistol is a recent addition to the SIG AIR range of replica air pistols.

This model uses SIG’s 20-shot pellet magazine loading system. It combines that with a blowback action and an adjustable rear sight.

Having a rear sight that’s adjustable for windage and elevation on a CO2 replica pistol is very unusual and is to be applauded. In fact, the HAM Team cannot immediately think of any other CO2 pistol with such a feature.

The appearance and finish of the SIG X-Five ASP CO2 pellet pistol look good and the gun certainly is heavy. It weighs-in at no less than 2 Lbs 14 Oz with a full CO2 cartridge!

The SIG X-Five ASP CO2 pellet pistol also uses SIG’s cam-loading system for easy loading of the 12 Gram CO2 cartridges. This is quick, convenient and removes the need for a hex wrench to pierce the cartridge. (It also removes the possibility for loosing that hex wrench at a critical moment when reloading).

The SIG X-Five ASP CO2 pellet pistol is a large, full-size handgun. It has a relatively long Weaver/Picatinny rail in front of the trigger guard. We used this to mount a Leapers UTG sub compact red laser on the gun – there was plenty of room, as you can see from the photograph below.

The manufacturer claims a high, 430 FPS, maximum Muzzle Velocity from the X-Five ASP. However, as they correctly point out, this will depend on the pellet weight and shooting environment – ambient temperature and altitude.

The SIG X-Five ASP CO2 pistol was first seen at the 2018 SHOT Show. It’s available in retail sale from most of the usual online retailers, including Pyramyd Air.

SIG AIR is unusual in offering CO2-powered replica firearms in both pellet-firing and BB-firing versions. However, they’re generally not of the same original center fire model. This is good as it gives the shooter a choice of ammo.

Some indoor ranges will not allow BBs to be fired due to the danger of ricochets. This makes SIG ASP pellet-firing replicas usable for training sessions in this environment.

HAM plans to bring you a comprehensive test review of the SIG X-Five ASP CO2 pellet pistol in future.
