Heckler & Koch HK416 BB Gun
The Heckler & Koch HK416 BB gun is a new introduction from Umarex into the crowded, selective-fire BB gun market. Interestingly, it takes a different technical approach to other rapid-firing BB long guns.
You’ll see the big difference as soon as you drop the magazine and prepare to lead the two 12 Gram CO2 cartridges into it. Sure, the CO2s fit in, but there’s nowhere for the BBs!
That’s because the BBs are actually stored in a reservoir in the top of the gun…
Directly behind the flip-up front sight, there’s a sliding door. Slide it back and pour a lot – the instructions say up to 500 – BBs into the reservoir.
Now slide the door back shut, pull the BB follower handle forward and down. Then shake the airgun from side-to side to load 36 BBs into the BB chamber.
Return the BB follower to it’s rear position and you’re ready to go live!
Rack the charging handle and set the fire control selector switch from safe to the shooting mode you want to enjoy. These choices are semi-auto (one shot per pull of the trigger) and the “fun mode” which is a six-shot burst each time the trigger is pulled.
The Heckler & Koch HK416 BB gun is equipped with flip-up front and rear iron sights. However, it will probably generate superior accuracy downrange if you mount a red dot sight on the super-long Picatinny rail atop the gun.
We attached a Leapers UTG red/green dot sight for serious shooting. (The rear sight can be removed, if required).
Indeed, the front of the Heckler & Koch HK416 BB gun is pretty-well covered with Picatinny rails. Those on either side of the forend could be used to mount lasers or flashlights, for example.
We mounted a bipod to the underside rail, as you might imagine.
The manufacturer claims a maximum Muzzle Velocity of 460 FPS for the Heckler & Koch HK416 BB gun. Of course, this will depend on ambient temperature and the rate of fire – as with any other CO2-powerd airgun.
With a Street Price of $149.99, this HK416 is priced at the value end of the “BB fun gun” market. That six-shot burst capability is a differentiator that will appeal to many…

SAFETY FIRST. As with all BB-firing airguns, it’s necessary to wear shooting glasses when firing this airgun. Also do not shoot at hard surfaces or water. BBs tend to bounce off these surfaces and may hit you, or something other than what you intended. If in doubt, don’t pull the trigger! Due to the realistic appearance of this product, handle it as you would a firearm. Do not display it in public or in any place where it could be mistaken for a cartridge firearm.
