SIG SAUER Airgun Products Arrive at HAM

Two parcels recently arrived at the Hard Air Magazine offices, containing samples of new SIG SAUER airgun products. Here’s what we received…

Our heading photo above shows the new SIG SAUER P226 air pistol.

Both the P226 and P250 SIG SAUER airguns are pellet-firing CO2 pistols. They both use the same magazine that holds 16 pellets, 8 each in either of the two rotary clips at the ends of the magazine stick. These are .177 caliber airguns, of course.

First impressions from all the HAM team to this SIG SAUER airgun were “wow, it’s heavy!” The SIG SAUER P226 air pistol weighs-in at a full 2 Lbs 8 Oz, including magazine and CO2 cartridge. That’s a real handful!

Of course, the firearm original P226 is not exactly known for being a lightweight and so the CO2 version is replicating the feel of the firearm as it should.

Below, we have a photograph of the SIG SAUER P250 air pistol. The chunkier design of the P250 makes it look more of a handful than the P226, but appearances are deceiving and this SIG SAUER airgun weighs a more average 1 Lb 8 Oz.

Both the P226 and P250 SIG SAUER airguns are pellet-firing pistols. They both use the same magazine that holds 16 pellets, 8 each in either of the two rotary clips at the ends of the magazine stick. Both are powered by CO2 cartridges, of course.

As you can see from the photos, SIG SAUER has also 12 gram CO2 cartridges in SIG SAUER airgun branding.

There’s also a range of SIG SAUER airgun pellets. We received some tins of the .177 cal Match Ballistic Alloy pellets. These wadcutter pellets have a weight of 5.25 Grains and are claimed to offer “exceptional accuracy for competition and training.” These pellets are manufactured in Germany by H&N for SIG SAUER. That’s a good thing because H&N pellets have a high reputation for quality.

H&N Field Target Trophy Green alloy pellets often shoot very well in air rifles, being the most accurate alloy pellets HAM has found so far. So we have high expectations for these SIG SAUER Match Ballistic Alloy wadcutter pellets.

Opening the other box, we found a range of SIG SAUER airgun targets. Hey, it was almost like Christmas!

These airgun targets look to be substantially manufactured from powder-coated steel.

As with most airgun targets, these SIG SAUER airgun targets are designed to be used with lead airgun pellets and are clearly marked as such. This is a safety requirement as alloy pellets and BBs can rebound back dangerously towards the shooter.

The packaging for these SIG SAUER airgun targets claims that they all can be used with .25 caliber airguns, as well as .177 and .22 cal. This is surely an error as most .25 caliber air rifles would be far too powerful for use with these targets and knowledgeable airgun shooters would not try shooting them with .25 cal pellets.

The SIG SAUER airguns website indicates that all their targets are suitable for .177 and .22 calibers only and HAM agrees with that.

Below, the SIG SAUER Quad Shooting Gallery pellet trap system has 4 “knock down” targets and a central paddle which, when hit, resets the other targets.

The SIG SAUER Texas Star Spinner air gun target has 9 reactive target faces. When one is hit, it locks back, changing the balance of the target “wheel” and causing it to rotate. As more targets are hit, the wheel moves in different ways, making this an interesting target to shoot. Aiming at the moving target faces presented by this Texas Star Spinner would be good practice for hunters.

The Texas Star target is supplied in parts and assembly is required. At first, it looks as if at least three hands will be required to do this. But don’t worry! The simple illustrated instructions clearly indicate the assembly stages and it can, indeed, be assembled by one person with the regular compliment of two hands.

Like all the SIG SAUER airgun target systems, the Texas Star Spinner is supplied with supplies of stick-on target faces. These can be used to replace the original target faces that will inevitably sustain impact damage.

Below, we see the SIG SAUER Quad Spinner airgun target. This is another re-settable reactive target system. The bottom four paddles flip up when struck. Hitting the top target face immediately re-sets the lower targets, allowing the fun to continue.

Of course, we’re really waiting for the MCX and MPX air rifles to arrive too! Stephen Archer hasn’t been able to stop thinking about them since the 2015 SHOT Show back in January and has very high hopes for these guns. Maybe Santa will find a way to help out…
