The New Umarex AirSaber Elite X2 Double Barrel Arrow Rifle

Umarex USA has announced the new Umarex AirSaber Elite X2. This is a double barrel side-by-side air archery airgun. It’s a development of the original AirSaber, which earned a Gold Award when first introduced and tested by HAM in back in 2020.

The New Umarex AirSaber Elite X2 Double Barrel Arrow Rifle

The key innovation of the AirSaber Elite X2 is that it offers the capability of an equally-powerful followup shot – if required – in less than two seconds. There’s a large, “push across” selector button to change firing barrels. It’s located at the front of the breech – easy to see and operate.

The shooter can shoot from either the left or right barrel, as preferred.

So – for example – a right-handed shooter, utilizing the left barrel first can make for a lightning-fast transition to the right barrel. With a little practice, this “split” can be brought down well under two seconds, says Umarex.

Lefties can make the first shot with the right barrel and switch to the left for a quick follow-up shot as well. While the AirSaber Elite X2 isn’t 100% ambidextrous (the cocking lever is on the right side), it is certainly not hard to operate with either hand.

AirSaber Arrows are hollow so the arrow can slide down over the gun’s internal barrel. As a result, the AirSaber arrows are made with the ability to withstand the extreme influx of high pressure air into the body of the arrow.

The arrows have not changed for this new model. So any existing 376-Grain AirSaber arrows (276-Grain arrow + 100-Grain head) on the market will work just fine with the new X2 version.

One thing that has changed is that the bolt action of the original AirSaber has been replaced by a sidelever cocking system. Although the HAM Team has not tried this yet, such a change is generally an improvement for ease-of-use.

The AirSaber Elite X2 features a 240cc onboard HPA reservoir that fills to 4,000 PSI. That’s 400 PSI higher than the original AirSaber. Shooters can still expect up to 25 shots that are well within the power range for humane game harvesting.

As with the original AirSaber, the Umarex AirSaber Elite X2 is unregulated. This is in order to achieve maximum power and range.

Of course, we all know that most hunters will only use the first few shots of pressure on a hunt. Umarex says to expect the first five shots to be leaving the X2 at a rate of about 450 FPS. The allows you to accurately place a shot out to 75 Yards, says the company.

The Airgun Hunting Legion is keeping track of game harvested with air guns now and Safari Club International has recently started tracking world records of game harvested with air.
