Pyramyd’s 2023 Top Riflescopes

Yesterday we looked at Pyramyd’s top-selling air rifles of 2023. Now it’s time to look at Pyramyd’s 2023 top riflescopes.

Again, this list is generously provided by Pyramyd. Thanks to the company for making this information available!

Pyramyd's 2023 Top Riflescopes

Mantis 4-12×40 AO Rifle Scope, Mil-Dot Reticle, 1/4 MOA, 1 Tube

As with the rifles, we’ll try to compare the 2023 top riflescopes with those of last year. Here it’s a little difficult as the 2022 results were divided into two lists – “budget scopes” and “high end scopes”. This time there’s only one list.

However it’s extremely likely that the budget scopes were the biggest sellers. So we can at least compare the top five budget scopes from 2022 with the overall top-selling scopes list for 2023.

Again, let’s make another comparison going back to 2015…

As with the rifles, we see a lot of changes. However again there’s a few trusty products that appear in this list year-after-year. These include the CenterPoint 4-16x40AO and AR22 4×32 scopes. Also the UTG SWAT 3-12x44AO model with 30mm tube.

Comparing Pyramyd’s 2023 top riflescopes with those in the 2015 list, a few things stand out.

Firstly the domination by Leapers UTG products in 2015 – no less than seven out of the top ten in that year. That compares to three UTG scopes in 2023.

Then there’s the issue of price…

Interestingly, the 2023 list shows only three optics with a selling price into three figures. These include the UTG Bugbuster at $140, the UTG 3-12×44 at $180 and – notably – the Hawke Vantage at $270. Congratulations to Hawke Optics for taking the number two-selling spot with such a relatively expensive product!

UTG 3-9×32 AO Bug Buster Rifle Scope, EZ-TAP, Illuminated Mil-Dot Reticle, 1/4 MOA, 1 Tube, Weaver/Picatinny Rings

I have to guess that the average price of the scopes (and red dot sights) in the 2023 list would be less – possibly much less – than the 2015 products, if corrected for inflation.

Why could that be?

Maybe this has something to do with the disappearance of air rifles with bundled scopes from Pyramyd’s top-selling airguns list? In 2023, all the top-sellers were sold as “bare” guns with no scopes.

CenterPoint AR22 Series 4×32 Duplex Reticle Rifle Scope, 3/8 Rings

Back in 2015, four out of the top ten airguns were sold with bundled 4×32 scopes. Further, there was a huge number of other “Zillion FPS”, single-shot breakbarrels also being sold at the time. All those had bundled scopes, too.

Maybe the 2015 scopes were mainly purchased to upgrade – er, how shall I put this – the indifferent 4×32 scopes bundled with rifles?

UTG 30mm Red/Green Dot Sight, Integral Picatinny Mounting Deck

In 2023, except for the Red Ryder, all the rifles in the Top Ten required the purchase of a separate scope and rings. (Yes, the Dragonfly has open sights, but many owners likely add a scope). And those PCPs also need some sort of air-filling capability, too.

Winchester 4×32 AO Rifle Scope, Rings

All that stuff costs money. Does it mean that a lot of buyers are skimping on scopes to keep within their budget?
