Texas Airgun Hunting – There’s A Second Chance For It To Become Legal!

Now there’s a second chance for legal Texas airgun hunting!

If you live in Texas, or if you plan to hunt in Texas, now is the time to make your voice heard in support…

The State Parks and Wildlife Department has posted a new proposed Texas Airgun Hunting rule on its website. It’s open for public comment until 21 August, 2018.

Every airgunner who hunts or plans to hunt in Texas, regardless of where they live, is asked to make positive comments so we can get this passed into law.

This time the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has broken the proposal into two parts. One is for game animals and birds. The other is for fur-bearing animals.

In very brief summary, the TPWD proposal is that PCP airguns and airbows only are to be used in Texas airgun hunting for deer and turkey. There’s also a requirement for 215 Ft/Lbs of Muzzle Energy.

Upland game birds and squirrel may use an airgun with any power source of .177 and up.

Additionally there will be a requirement for anyone born after 01 September, 1971 to take and pass a hunter education course to hunt with airguns. This requirement currently applies to hunters using firearms, crossbows and archery equipment.

So please go the the TWPD website, read their proposals thoroughly and make your comments known!

In addition, the TWPD will hold an open public meeting at their Austin HQ on 22 August. The new Texas airgun hunting proposals will be voted-on at this meeting. This is your chance to attend!

Full details are available on the very clear and well-organized TWPD website.

Thanks again to Thurmond Moore of T3P Ranch Airgun Solutions for bringing this to our attention!
