Umarex Primal 20 PCP Air Shotgun
The Umarex Primal 20 is the company’s second big bore PCP airgun. The first, of course, is the Hammer, recently tested by HAM.
The Primal is 20 Gauge – that’s a whopping .615 Inch – caliber. Here’s another candidate for big game hunting with an airgun!
It utilizes a special 20 gauge slug that is fitted with a plastic “wad” that acts as the seal within the barrel. Both the slug and the Invector choke installed in the barrel are rifled to insure excellent accuracy downrange, explains the company.
These 20 Gauge, 395 Grain slugs are fired at a maximum Muzzle Velocity of 700 FPS. That ‘s 430 Ft/Lbs of Muzzle Energy.
Like the Hammer, the Umarex Primal 20 uses a 2-shot, manually indexed, slide-across magazine. However, unlike the Hammer, it’s unregulated.
There’s a bolt action that can be set to operate on either side, together with a cocked bolt indicator. The ability to safely de-cock the Primal is also included. Further, it gives shooters a true drop safety, which is the first of its kind on an airgun, as well as a push-through manual safety.
The 24 Cubic Inch HPA reservoir fills to a maximum 4,000 PSI and is estimated to give a maximum of four shots per fill.
Scope mounting is possible courtesy of the Picatinny rail integrated into the breech.
Hunters will be pleased with the ambidextrous, synthetic all-weather stock. This has a textured forearm and has provision for sling mounting. Surprisingly, there’s no details yet for length and weight. But it certainly looks somewhat more svelte than the Hammer and possible lighter, too.
Pyramyd Air is quoting an in-stock date of 20 April, 2022.
